Tesla plans to produce 1 TWh of batteries per year (!)This is big.
https://electrek.co/2019/07/25/tesla-plans-massive-production-battery-cells-delays-unveiling/ During a conference call following the release of Tesla’s Q2 2019 financial results, CEO Elon Musk confirmed that during a coming investor day, the company will include a “manufacturing plan” for the production of “a terawatt-hour” of battery cells per year.
To put this into perspective, one terawatt-hour is around
35 TIMES MORE battery capacity than is currently being produced at the Tesla Gigafactory. It would mean more battery cell production capacity than the
entire world right now
several times over.
One terawatt-hour would correspond to something like 700 000 tonnes of nickel, if you assume 50 kilos of nickel per vehicle. This would be 30 percent of the entire global nickel market today- just from one single company.
Wow.
