RE:People complaining about adsCouldn’t agree more Divi - i been using Thescore app for years and in service to this new SCR community (and boredom) felt obligated to go to it after these postings to sniff out what the issue is/might be. I generally knew that i had seen ads and hadnt recalled being pissed off about them.
And..., after going through the app top to bottom, I still cant for the life of me understand anyone’s complaint. Sure sure, in a perfect world there would be no ads and magically having all of the information I want provided via the work of hundreds of people would be a service they provide out of the goodness of their hearts. In a world where I appreciate that nothing comes for free I, for one, am ok with being advertised to as an exchange for the benefit. If more papers did this they would get my eyes. I refuse to go through a paywall when content is free everywhere. So perhaps I am a bit biased because I already knew it didnt bother me. But anyhow ...
The ads:
1. occasionally there is an opening screen ad. I had to close and open the app three times to get one. It leaves quickly and i didnt find it obtrusive in the slightest. (Way better then in the “old days” of the app, say 4 years ago, when it often took 5-10 seconds to download the site in general, even without an ad)
2. In the news feed there is often an ad which appears the same size as one of the many articles. Usually a video ad. It is silent unless i want to hear it. You can scroll right by it if you want or choose to stop to watch it.
3. In various places there might be a bar ad at the bottom. Out of the way, bright, i suppose, if designed to catch the eye, but unobtrusive.
4. Occasionally in a box score there might be a bar ad at the top which disappears if you scroll upwards. In the bad google reviews cited below this seems to be the as that is causing some people the most concern. One or two suggest that they cant get to their options above or that they are being “tricked”. I cant see how because the options are clearly still there and moving to them while cleaning the add off is intuitive and seemless. I dunno, to each their own, doesnt bother me.
So whatever, doesnt concern me. As a long time investor I am pleased to see the wide variety of “blue chip” company advertisements. In the “old days” it seemed there were few ads and they were invariably Gillette (because MAN. SPORTS.!!) The tech wasn’t there yet to have seemless video ads as discribed above.
