RE:willikersResponse for Willikers re home insurance costs. Comments not related to Therralase per se.
I live in the GTA (greater Toronto) area and my home insurance went up close to 100%. When I enquired as to why, they indicated that there was a change to the industry model/methodology for calculating premiums due to higher replacement costs for housing and related materials. Look at the Dwelling Valuation coverage in your quote details. It's rediculous....twice the Dwelling Valuation from the year before and twice what I could get if I actually sold my house today. When I complained, the insurance companies didn't care cause it meant more premium income for them and where is the customer gonna go? Nowhere....cause all (or most) of the carriers applied the new model to calculate their premiums. What a f'n scam. The insurance oligopoly in Canada and the regulators amount to legalized robbery and there are no options for the consumer.
Try Desjardin. I managed to get the same premium as last year but it's posssible they hadn't applied the new model yet to their pricing models. Lucky that I got in just under the wire on that one. Car insurance is a similar scam.
