RE:$6.44Air Canada will give Transat the $40 million break fee after the competition bureaus have handed in their rulings. Air Canada will cite a change in business climate.
My math tells me....they pay $40 million to Transat. They are out of the contract. Basically, it cost them $1.07/share to get out. Transat stock will freefall, possibly to less than $1/share.
Now Air Canada can offer $2 or $3 per share, citing that there is much less cash in the bank.
The public outcry in Quebec will be HUGE, but, relativly muted in the grand scheme of this due to Covid19.
That's my guess on how this will end.
