The only real hope that the oil sands can survive is the fairly rapid implosion of the shale frackers. Unfortunately, I am told that 40% of the frackers production is hedged until 2021 so it won't happen soon enough to suit most of us.

I really think the end of the oil sands would be both an immediate and long term disaster for the Canadian economy. At the end of the day we are a resource producing nation no matter what the trust fund kid thinks.

As the U.S. energy industry falters the price of gold will continue its rally and its possible that the Candian dollar will make up some lost ground to the U.S. greenback. Many people in the U.S. are still unaware that the American banks in the south have way too much exposure to the shale oil debt and that problem is is the next headwind that will confront the U.S. and world economies. 

Oh well, at least Greta will be happy.
