Just Another Day!In days gone by, there used to be a Broker's Office on the ground floor of the Empire Hotel in Timmins Ontario. I can't remember who they were, either TA Richardson or Davidson & Co. Anyway, they had a sitting area, where you could sit and watch the ticker tape go by. After an hour or so, your head would be twitching sideways, back and forth, back and forth. If there was some interesting stocks to watch, you might be there for several hours. There may be a number of people there or maybe only a couple.
Anyway, fast forward to Thursday, May 14, 2020 (pretending that the Broker's Office is still there).
You walk into the Broker's Office about 9:15AM, just before the market opens. You notice there are more than the usual number of people there, all chatting. You recognize the local doctor, a lawyer, a plumber and several other people of unknown occupations. A way over in the far corner, but still able to see the ticker tape, were 3 older gentlemen, who could have been prospectors. If they were, there were at least 120 years of work in the bush between the 3 of them. Anyway, I decided to go over and sit near them. Not too close, but close enough to overhear what they were chatting about. I'll call them Joe, Charlie and Bill.
Joe: I talked to a driller yesterday over at the South Porcupine Hotel.
Charlie: You did!! What did he say?
Joe: Can't tell.
Bill: Did he talk about MKR?
Joe: Can't tell. Sorry.
The time was now about 9:25. The market would be opening soon. Some of the other people were talking about Amazon, Google, Shopify etc. Way out of my league. The market opens and MKR starts quickly at 0.83 and in minutes is at 0.96.
Bill: Where you going Joe?
Joe: I'm going up to buy 50,000 MKR
Charlie: Holy Cats Bill, I hope his wife is easy going!!
Bill: I hope Joe still has his tent!!
Anyway, Joe was heading back to his buddies a minute later, with an expression on his face that had a 'killer' look.
Charlie: What's the matter Joe?
Joe: The SOBs just halted MKR!!!!!! He was furious.
Bill: Are you sure Joe!
The ticker tape kept running, but no more MKR. Just the usual run of the mill stocks that only the doctor, the lawyer, the plumber and by now, a few housewives were interested in.
The 3 old timers got up as they were heading across the street to get a coffee. They were mumbling something as they were exiting the Broker's Office. Me, my head was getting a little dizzy from watching the ticker tape. So I decided to leave too. I was heading right over to the South Porcupine Hotel to find that driller.
Have a very nice long weekend. Stay Safe.
