RE:Who Knew? It pays to continue doing DD.Very few systems are in use and if you wanted an exact number it would be best to ask Peter, however, I would be hesitant to take up his time with this. I strongly believe it is fewer than 5. Definitely none since they went public in 2011. One must take into consideration when this was published. 7 years before Pyro went public and much has changed in that time. I don't believe that partnership ever materialized into anything meaningful. Using plasma to destroy waste is not a cheap process, and cruise ships use diesel fuel. The main advantage to plasma waste destruction comes from electricity sources that do not produce CO2 or very little C02. Burning diesel to generate electricity to vitrify waste, is likely not the most cost effective method, and as a result it did not see widespread adoption. Aircraft Carriers are nuclear powered, and they were mandated by the US Government to stop throwing trash overboard. What made Pyro a perfect of a fit was that the PAWDS system is far more compact than conventional incinerators. It was a "perfect storm" if you will. Additionally Aircraft Carriers are designed not to need a port. Resupply ships are it's lifeline which is very different than a cruise ship. It is currently more economical for cruise ships to compact and store the garbage and then off load at ports. I don't mean to diminish the importance of this technology but it is not the low hanging fruit Peter prefers to pursue. Perhaps a more viable target would be a Caribbean island with limited space, building a land based plasma destruction to deal with excess cruise ship garbage. The syngas produced could be used locally at the port as fuel for equipment and the slag could be used in construction material. The power could be generated by one of the many tidal project currently underway in the Orkney Islands. It would be a great example of the circular economy which is becoming such a hot topic. As you can image the above scenario would take several years of collaboration or a large capital investment to prove the concept. Less low hanging but no doubt a viable pursuit in the future once the company is cash flow positive. Just my thoughts. HK
