I don't have an answer to every question in your post, but I can tell you that trying to copy an analog chip is nearly impossible.

Digital chips can easily be reverse engineered, but analog has been described as "Painting on silicon" referring to the fact that once designed, the subtle differences are so unique, no one could really make a copy.
