RE:RE:RE:U.S. Housing Starts Numbers Beat Estimates 1,496k annualizedYes, I was curious as well. Historcially there were only two "pure play" lumber co's: IFP and CFF. CFF is more a utility than enything -- in fact, I was looking at the absurd valuation multiples those steady sectors pull and it's something else. Even Acadian timber, of steady revenuce fame, get's a 14.5x multiple from RBC,
Anyway, it's likely IFP as the only true pure play now. The others have pulp overhang in the traditonal vertical integration model. Not a bad thing, often counter cycllical, but this boom is lumber and panels all the way. So, in some senses IFP is pretty complelling, maybe even moreso than WFT or CFP. WFT is just an excellent company though, I suppose it's tough to argue with them. And CFP, well they are doing thier thing, and my CFP buddies have cheques in the mail already for pre-bonus bonus. They take care of thier mgmt first.
I am investing money for another relative now and have played that deployment 'chicken', but notable tickers I went with there were ADN and OSB. CFF I buy for myself as I can't predict the short term and sometimes it's more painful than it should be. That said, I've bulked up my positon by about 50% in the last few days which was lucky to catch the updraft yesterday. I had some dogs held down by pulp (RYAM) to shed and make room for more CFF.
