RE:Buffet bought silver shares....needs confirmationBerkshire Hathaway made a big buy in five or six of the largest conglomerates in Japan - their mining and commodities exposure only part of their business and probably not as important as the relative discounted cash flow - the P/E ratios in Japan are about 60% of those for comparable commodity asset and heavy industrial exposure through the S&P, plus there may be a currency play in the long term yen chart. Perhaps Warren and Charlie think America can debase itself more shamelessly then a nation of determinedly thrifty, hardworking savers, even if they are aging. You can never count America as down and out, but they do look flabby and tired, leaning on the credit these days.
Got me thinking about some Japanese exposure in my own long term plans. Buffet’s no dummy. He did make big physical silver bets in the past, never discloses until his position is filled. Wouldn’t surprise me if he was at it again.
