According to Statistics Canada, the country's cannabis industry contributed roughly $8.63 billion to the economy in August – a slight dip from the prior month on a seasonally-adjusted basis. StatsCan data shows the monthly figure is still a 6% increase from August 2019.
The adult-use legal market's contribution to GDP rose by about 25% in that same span. The report went on to say that the illicit market represented $3.83 billion, or about 44%, of the cannabis industry's contribution to Canada's economy.
