RE:Shivered Timbers S7 - very astute post by you! :)lol. Yup. Oman would be a stop for sure if one could get past The Sea of Aden. I remember produce trucks in Dubai from Muskat and Oman. Last time I seen the produce section at Carrifour, I pulled my camera to take pictures of it. Nicest produce since my Mother’s garden.
Since you were so close, I know of an Iranian “gift shop” on an island near Fujairah. Cool place. Handy for gift shopping where you can load up on grenades, AK-47’s and such. And such friendly people. Probably the best toys that the Rooskies and CIA could afford any at such low low prices. Straights of Hormuz is an interesting place, story to be told of the Shiek in Sharjah and Ras al Khaimah selling islands to Iran (1972 methinks) which gave them control of the Straights of Hormuz. Sharjah Sheik’s cousin took offence to the sale and gave him one in the temple with a .45 and laid claim to his job. The second hand man was given Sheik’s gold Cadillac and appointed Port and Harbour Commisioner. I used to visit him and have drinks at the Sheba Hotel in Sharjah with him and was witness to an adventure or two. Beautiful guy and adventurous story’s with him as well. I was last there in 2001 and learned at the Sharjah souk that he recently passed so the Canadian gift I had to him was forwarded to his family.
Anyway, Happy Trails wally....... I have to stop calling you wally, reminds me of a recent sour piece in my life.
