You have identified the single most important aspect of school.
Social interaction is the base for life in future years.

I know several young adults ( 5 or 6) who were home schooled.
Their parents were good parents. In many cases the parents
were qualified skilled teachers.

Still.

Most home schooled kids are destined to be a bit odd-duck.
They can succeed in business and be good citizens.  But they
are lesser people than if they had been through the rough and 
tumble of going to school  K through 12.
