First off  Im not witholding info from the board intentionally as sharing info is one of the purposes of these boards. I would share if I could but for professional reasons I cant say more than I have. Just rest assured that the tonnage they are looking at is considerably more than the original 500 tpd permit request which is why they pulled it.

Generally speaking yes, the labour market is very tight in the region. Projects like fenelon have to compete with other mines nearby for labour many of which are between 5 minutes and 45 minutes from home for most miners. Fenelon is out of the way and less attractive for the labour force, but money talks. The existing mines pay top dollar for labour and suck up people from other businesses such as garages, welding shops and mining contractors. Several restaurants including a MacDonalds closed over a year ago because they couldnt find local manpower. Several employment agency type companies have sprung up and are making a mint flying people up from other regions, providing room and board, and renting these people out to the mining companies. In addition, the Abitibi also supplies labour for several mines in the far north including Raglan and Agnicos multiple mines. Agnico and Canadian Royalties Nunivik Nickel mine fly people out of Val d'or where they maintain offices right at the airport terminal, with their own plane and Raglan does the same out of their terminal in Rouyn Noranda , also with their own plane. Miners salaries start at around $85,000 for local mines and can go over $150,000 for the guys up north who work at the site 2 weeks in and out 2 weeks. So assay labs and every other business in town competes with that. Every fit 20 to 40 year old drives around in $110,000 pickups and one can get stoned for free following them down the road if your windows are open. It sure beats living in a city.
