Its because the value of BT was fixed the same day too. Its impossible to fix the value of BT and the counterpart the day of the transaction.
The Alstom shares was a part of the payment and this value has to be fixed as it was cash, the day they signed the final final agreement (sept 16 ).
Including Alstom shares facilitated the financing of the transaction for Alstom and\or allow Bombardier to have a better price. Bombardier accept the market risk of the Alstom shares.
