1. It's hard to replicate such a secure, fully-featured, tried and true real time OS. If the Chinese and other big multinational players could do it, they'd do so in a heartbeat.
2. QNX is obviously priced just right. If BB doubled its asking price, I bet there would be a surge in sales & development of WindRiver, Greenhills, etc.
3. QNX is aiming to become the standard, universal, RTOS for automotive sw.
-- Oddly enough, we see a lot of OEMs trying to shave yet another $5 to $20 off of the cost of a single car by going with seemingly "free" Linux. That's the MBA mentality: short-term accounting that begs trouble down the road. Even then they still have to deploy the QNX hypervisor to maintain security.
-- Some companies, like Tesla, are in fact developing their own full SW stack in-house. We'll see if Musk eventually recognizes the value of joining the QNX train.
Good points Yasch. No wonder Chen has that Cheshire Cat grin all the time. He's content to fade out while others ponder what he's offering. Reminds me when people go on the cheap and eventually end up buying the more expensive. There's reasons for that, quality and performance.
Musk et al are now just starting to face that dilemma, especially after what's happened with MSFT. Seems China and some other nations have thrown the towel in the ring. They are buying our tech and making advancements at quicker pace. North American car makers will have to say goodbye to underperforming tech and go with BB. Our competition is selling our brand for us, so to speakJMO
