I'm struggling to digest this news. Although clearly a powerful ally for the company, Ms Ward is one of those politicians who disgracefully helped stir up the lies and the chaos post-November that ultimately led to the storming of the Capitol.
Putting her recent behavior aside, I'm also not certain that appointing a high-profile republican to the board is such a good idea in a state that now appears to be leaning Democrat (though these things can change of course).
On the other hand, of course, it puts DME very much on the map, and illustrates the ambition of the company. Whatever your politics, it's a controversial move nonetheless, and I'd be very interested to hear others' views on this.
