RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Not to be a buzzzz kill...I completely understand the feelings expressed by TheBigW81, but as a retired person who used to just hate taxes I say there has to be perspective. Taxes are necessary and our quest should be that they be somewhat "fair". Most "tax the rich" schemes are looking at incomes of greater than $100,000 and some recent proposals in the US are looking at incomes greater than $250,000 or even $1,000,000. I can live with that.
My best example of the effects of a low tax system would be to reference Portland Oregon. Oregon has no sales tax. In return their kids get to play hockey in a very few ancient looking arenas and the younger ages play across the ice becuase there just are not enough ice sheets to play full ice. A trip to downtown Portland will show you entire communities of homeless people living in tents and shacks under the overpasses and they are there year - round becuase the weather is warm enough. Since these people have problems and cannnot take care of themselves without stealing things the crime rate keeps people on edge.
So bring on the "fair" taxes. The alternative is not pretty.
