On health (COVID-19), Keiko is a powerful speaker, clearly experienced, stayed on message, and promised to do more about the pandemic:
- Greater COVID testing 70,000 tests per day (Pedro didn't talk about this).
- More hospital beds (Pedro didn't talk about this).
- Peru will produce their own vaccines in 2-3 years (Pedro did talk about this).
- Free vaccines for everyone from Russia with help from the churches (Pedro did talk about this).
Congress is controlled by 65% right wing seats and 35% left wing seats.
The first vote was 67% right wing and 33% left wing (the absent vote tend to vote right of center).
Polls say that Pedro is ahead by 9% right now, but polls can be wrong. In my opinion Pedro is bartering for more health care spending and royalties by threatening to have a referendum, coming to the table with strength to make change, but I don't think it will get that far. Peru's constitution says that they need 2/3 vote to have a referendum to change the constitution, based on the vote results and congress's division of power, it doesn't seem like the left have the votes to have a referendum; furthermore, this only matters if Pedro gets in, but it seems like the polls are wrong based on the initial % right wing vote.
In my opinion, do your own research.
