RE:LockdownsTo date, the US has had roughtly 600,000 COVID-19 associated deaths. Canada, with a population 1/10th that of the US, has had roughly 25,000. On a prorated basis Canada has had, more or less, have the death-toll of the US.
With politics, in Canada, being rather less polarized than in the US, Canadians have better accepted the implementation of measures such as lockdowns - these having been but one measure having contributed to the lower death rate.
Granted, no one likes measures restricting their lives (Canadians included) but the population, at large, understood these were for the greater common good.
In short, Canadians, not unlike populations around the world, were not particularly thrilled at the idea of lockdowns, but these were, perhaps, better accepted than in other parts of the world.
Thankfully, Canada entered the pandemic with a generally stronger economy than most other G7 countries, which has reduced economic hardship on everyone (not to minimize the fact it has been hard on many). But I think its stronger economic position, along with less polarized politics, have helped Canada better ride the pandemic storm.
My two cents.
