RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:no sissiesEarlier I mentioned the likelihood for Afghanistan to break down into a multifaction civil war. In the last few days, they've taken the first step in that direction. With the aid of Pakistan, the Taliban are moving against the last and best-defended stronghold of the Mujahideen from whom they originated. Meanwhile, I think we all understand the Isis-K is no friend of the Taliban and that Alkaida also has factions present in Afghanistan.
Moreover, the Taliban is only a confederation (for now) of some 12-18 parties or tribes having little long-term evidence of political cohesion.
So, the major players there now are:
Taliban (composed of multiple factions);
Isis (composed of multiple factions in the Middle East);
Alkaida (spread across the Middle East);
Mujahideen (united in one province now under attack).
For now, the world seems confused but looks to be leaning toward supporting the Taliban in ruling Afghanistan, as if someone has to when no one has ever been able to do that. Meanwhile, a humanitarian crisis is developing over food and water. Where does one send the aid when all the factions of power want to kill all those not designated True Believers?
Let's not walk in this fire. It's time for the West to stand aside.
