My expertise is mostly related to regulatory based utilities, and on that side, unless there would be something special in a specific district, usually the price of Natural Gas won't effect their net earnings.
I see that Algonquin does have Natural Gas storage, and they may have made a gain from when they stored the NG and sold it. If the NG storage gains are not regulated, or regulated and split with customers, that could have generated extra earnings for them. Otherwise, you'd have to point me out the report so that I take a look at why they doubled their profit (might not have been related at all with NG prices).
I do own a bit of AQN, and to the best of my knowledge, the increase in revenue and profit is due to their massive investments (and thus rate increases), not specifically the price of NG.
