RE:RE:4.7 billion What Suncor investors are looking for is operational excelence, fiscal prudence and prioritizing shareholder returns to vanity growth projects.
Suncor is a beheamoth integrated energy company and Little has plenty to keep him busy in optimizing performance and bringing the greatest value to his shareholders. I am delighted that Suncor's management does not view their company to be the next Tesla - an over valued growth company that shares nothing in common, including the profile of the majority of their investors. I think you need to do a little homework and learn what the difference is between a value and growth company. Suncor is the former whereas you are clearly interested in the latter and should therefore not be in your investment horizon.
If you want a little growth excitement in a sector that is clearly orientated to those seeking value I suggest you consider Headwater (HWX) or any junior in the Clearwater play. We're not talking Bitcoin or EV level of excitment, but in terms of Oil and Gas opportunities that is as exciting as it gets. I personally favor TVE and BTE, which have significant exposure to outperformance opportunities in Clearwater, but also have a more diverse secure portfolio of assets.
As for Suncor, I hope it continues to be boring and responsibe by investing mostly in sustaining capital projects and prioritizing FCF to share buybacks and dividends. If this occurs the current generous dividend will grow by at least 10% annualy even with oil prices much lower than today. Not a bad return for a boring company.
As a general rule the "grownups" on The Street look at attempts of financial engineering as a negative unless they are taking over a company as part of a leveraged buyout. What they are looking for in a company is vision and excitement. TSLA is a good example of this and why as of today Musk is now the richest guy in the world at $350 billion. Not saying anyone should buy TSLA - I wouldn't but those that got in early made a lot of money because people are willing to pay for vision and excitement.
With the right management and its huge FCF, SU could grow into a huge powerhouse. Right now management has signalled the opposite and hence the little interest in the company and a lagging SP relative to its fundamentals.
