Another new Delta 9 product to try!I've made another trip to my local Delta 9 store, and took the plunge on a new D9 offering, a concentrate product that has been missing from their repetoire; Onyx Pressed Hash.
I purchased a 2g container of Onyx for $39.00, which to me seemed reasonable. Onyx has a THC percentage of 32.19%.
From the Delta 9 website:
Delta 9 Onyx is a collection of trichomes extracted from high quality Manitoba grown cultivars, which is then pressed and meticulously worked to form solid resinous squares. The time-consuming process requires high levels of attention which results in the most ancient form of cannabis product, known as hashish (hash).
The product itself comes in a small sized black container, similar to their flower bottles, however it seems to be a custom container, as it is very shallow. The whole presentation is pretty sharp. In any case it is a far cry from the 'bottle caps' that I used to buy at the pool hall in the 90's...
When you open the container, you find a small rectangle of hard pressed hash. Honestly, the picture on the website is pretty much exactly what you can expect. It was easy to break off a small chunk with my thumb nail for the bong.
The first thing that became apparent is that ceramic cooktops have protected my wife's butter knives, but that not all technological advances are created equal...
While not being able to 'hot-knife' was a disappointment, the hash was not. While I didn't get a lot of bubbling from this hash, I really enjoyed the taste, and didn't get any kind of 'chemical-y, butane-y' taste that I have gotten from some illicit online hash I have tried recently. It was a pure flavour that I enjoyed.
The high was intense for a few minutes, but then transformed into a really relaxed affair. The effect was exactly what I was hoping for, which was mellow, smooth, and long lasting. It was both a physical, and mental experience, leading to a sense of serenity. My wife and I smoked, then enjoyed listening to Pink Floyd's "The Wall" album, before feeling the effects really start to ebb.
I would imagine that the flower processed to make this stuff is not their "top-of-the-line" product, and from a business standpoint this makes sense. Turn your low margin stuff into high margin stuff. Like printing money.
I will likely buy this product again, as it was a nice departure from my usual flower. Time will tell if this is a profitable or popular SKU for the company. I'm not sure what their margins are for this, or what kind of ratio of flower to hash the company is looking at. Hopefully the numbers make sense, as having another good concentrate in D9's menu really is a feather in their cap.
Of note, I was unable to buy a D9 'Blast' vape cartridge, and was super disappointed. I spoke with the woman working, and she informed me that they havn't gotten any D9 vape cartidges for a long time. We both agreed that their Blast vape was amazing, but she believed that producing it for the company was not economical, because they could sell the flower (input) for more than the vape cartridge (output). Hopefully this won't be the case with Onyx.
I'll be watching to see what happens to D9's vape products, but I hope they come back. I think customer loyalty is something that might be hard to put a dollar value on, but talk to any tobacco smoker... Having 'your brand' is important. Keep the customer happy, and they will keep coming back. A repeat customer is something that shouldn't be undervalued by management, even if in the short term, you can make more money keeping your menu streamlined to the highest margin products.
But I'm not a CEO, those kind of management decisions are well outside my circle of competance. I just like their products....
