RE:RE:How taxes workActually you are wrong. The loss is not a capital loss from a tax perspective. The benefit shows up on her T4 as income not capital gain. It's a lost loss. Now if she were to take her winnings and buy the shares back with that money, any gain or loss WOULD BE a capital gain or loss.
