RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Just speculatingI think that its a fair description of the past key events viewed from the commercial / technical view point. Where I disagree with many here is re. the role attributed to PB in trying to picture him as the villain in this family saga. After firing Tellier as CEO because he refused to go ahead with the CSeries, LB transfered PB from BRP to replace him. End of discussion for him. Thanks to PB and EM friendship these two manage to keep under the radar their efforts to renew the bizjets fleet...But they could not face the concerted attacks from BA, Airbuss and the others...let alone the lack of support from the Fed gov ( was this the price to pay for firing Tellier?) When it became obvious that the train business was sinking their ship, ( LB mismanaged collection of old train co) the family had no choice but to get this outsider Belmarre to clean their plate. Of course EM was the first to be shown the door by Belmarre! But TGod he remained in good term with PB. And the rest is history! Now, just think for a minute what would have remained of BBD without the Global? PB is the (unknown) brain behind BRP. I would not discount him for the future of BBD aviation. Also, the CSeries is a tremendous asset for Qc. Tks to this family long term view ( rather than strictly $$) I am certain that we are just at the beginning of future promising development with them. GLTA.

Bombardier picked GTF for C series and wanted to have entry into revenue service before MRJ. The engine C series was using was still in development stage. Cant blame PW for their engine issues because it was still in development stage. This is why neither PW or Bombardier mentioned any penalties for engine delay. Yes Bombardier under estimated the development cost and duration of certification time. All OEM has problem getting new aircraft on time and under budget. Boeing is still carrying 787 development cost in tens of billions. Airbus has black eye from a380 and a350 entry which was delay and cost overrun. Bombardier had to respond to MRJ at smaller CRJ level and E jets at upper end of CRJ series. C series was to address MRJ, E jet and while at it address the DC-9/MD88 series. No one expected Boeing and Airbus to respond by re-engine A320 and 737. Recall Boeing was studying MOM and NMA aircraft and Airbus was busy with A350 to counter 787. Airbus saw c series as threat and re-engine a320 to address c series and pre-emptively take on NMA aircraft from Boeing. After American Airlines ordered a320neo then Boeing came with MAX. Max was studied by Boeing but was put on shelf for NMA. Because of large a320neo order from AA, Boeing had to refersh MAX and offer it as decent competition to be relevant. This is what killed C series. Both Airbus and Boeing squeezed the c series out. What PB is at fault was to have Learjet 85, Global 7000, and CSeries all getting developed together. Airbus and Boeing with larger purse dont even do that and take on multiple projects. Boeing was to replace 737 with all new design and Airbus was to do same with 320. Because of C series Boeing and Airbus re-engined, and because of MRJ Bombardier made the C series. Sadly the plane which started all this the MRJ never made it out of development stage. But it changed the dynamics of the 4 largest airframer maker forever and changed the aviation landscape. Had PB not committed to 3 programs and concentrated on CS-75 and CS-100 and secertly work on CS-300 then Bombardier would have had a chance. PB committed so much to the 3 programs that Dash 8, CRJ and all rail contracts/products were neglected. His at fault but not for all of it.

one coment i have regarding " PB developing the the CSeries for $6B"

fair = fair , why the C series costed 6B$

he C serries was supposed to start delivering much earlier than 2018

there was about 3 years delays on the c series

first delay was caused by Pratt&Whitney engin catching fire on first test in 2013

P&W took over one year to solve the problem for engines used by the C seies !!!!!!

NOTE SAME ENGIN IS USED BY AIRBUS, NO ONE PROBLEM WITH AIRBUS!!!!!

THEN IN 2015 + 2016 P&W started to deliver engines to bbd, only one engine or two every couple of month, while there was no delay on delivering to Airbus !!!!!!!

then when bbd started deliveringin 2018 and after they got slapped with 300% tax requested by boieng.......anther delays in delivering etc

it was not the family who created all those delays

because of delys bbd had to borrow more money that bring cost to 6B

the family had the guts to go for clen sheet design, introduced best single isle jet and was confronted with so many obstacles

imo, boieng, airbus, P&W, Quebec, Canadian gov. all conspired to take away the c series from bbd hand

fair = fair
