What you are describing is called wash trading. Wash trading is done to artificially increase demand in a stock to pump its value. The wash traders then short the stock and profit when it plummets due to the "fake demand" no longer supporting the sp. In this case you are arguing that they are wash trading to keep the stock artifically low, which doesnt make sense. How do they benefit from what you are implying?
