RE:QDEL earningsYes nice Quidel results! I would not be surprised to see some greater collaborative efforts between Quidel and SQI. Once you have determined what the patient has, the next concern is how they are responding in regards to immune system activity. SQI's RALI - Dx tests at the next logical test, determining who needs to be checked in to the hospital and who can go home. Triaging with the benefit of data that only diagnostics can provide are an efficient and logical process.
Given the data below in regards to the number of Covid-19 outbreaks in Ontario long-term care and retirement homes, these Quidel Sofia Covid-19 tests are an important and prudent intervention.
The rapid tests currently being used in many of these environments are not Health Canada approved for asymptomatic detection - the Sofia 2 tests are the ONLY Health Canada approved tests for asymptomatic testing. THIS IS SIGNIFICANT, and given people are dying as a result of missed cases entering the buildings and causing spread, it is a moral responsibility of SQI to make sure these environments are informed, and in a position to benefit all stakeholders as a result of access to these superior tests. These are vulnerable settings that can use all the help they can get. SQI can help, and should be helping. We should look forward to hearing about SQI's progress here over the weeks ahead. This should be a feel good story too, where SQI shareholders and stakeholders can be proud that every effort to assist those in need is being done with great moral commitment to humanity.
Here below is a clip from a news piece earlier today....(they need our help & we should be there)
“There are very few mitigation efforts in place right now. You don’t have to wear a mask in most settings, there are no capacity limits, people are living their lives and sure there is a lot of COVID out there but it is not nearly the same as it was this time last year or in 2020,” he said. “That said, I don't think we should pretend for a second that this is over. There is still COVID out there, it can still infect people and it still preys on vulnerable individuals, at-risk individuals and at-risk communities.” While virus levels have been on the decline for a few weeks now, there continues to be a slow rise in outbreaks in a handful of vulnerable settings.
The latest data suggests that there are now 217 active outbreaks in long-term care homes and 178 active outbreaks in retirement homes, up from 214 and 171 at this time last week.
