The training provided communicators with tools for a comprehensive approach to the extractive industry; mineral processing; the mining cycle from exploration to the closure of the mine, if the deposit has economic and social merit, as well as precise information on the international standards that regulate the transparency of operations and the relationship with the environment. The closing ceremony was led by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte Reynoso, and the journalist Jos Beato, president of the National Union of Press Workers (SNTP), on behalf of the president of the CDP, Aurelio Henrquez. Minister Almonte highlighted the importance of the training because from now on the participating journalists will have a vision from the scientific point of view to address mining issues. On his side, journalist Jos Beato said that this type of course was needed to guide journalists on the importance of natural resources and to learn about the need for exploitation without detriment to the environment. Deputy Minister Daz said that the course arose from the perception that many journalists did not address issues with scientific rigor and that now they were provided with tools that will allow them to go deeper in their investigations. As part of the training program, the journalists made three field visits to mining companies located in the country. The first Diploma on Mining for Journalists was given by recognized experts in geology, including geological engineers: Osiris de Len, Eduardo Verdeja and Marco Prez Garca; Yomaira Martin Soto, sustainability and climate change consultant; the economist Henry Hebrard and the journalist Luis Rosado, consultant in public relations and communications. In addition, it was attended by international speakers: Freddy Cceres, manager of the Extractive Industry Governance Program at the University of Calgary and Alfredo Kramarz, professor, researcher and columnist on international politics. The authorities of the Ministry of Energy and Mines had an outstanding participation in the training program.
