RE:Prudent?

RE:Prudent?
DaveInvestor59 wrote: The President of Shopify said on BNN this evening that he was trying to be "prudent" in his forward guidance of future earnings in the quarterly report they gave yesterday. Why would the President of a tech company like Shopify want to be prudent in his quarterly report in an investing environment like we're in right now. If anything he should have been as positive as he could possibly be for investors when reporting in an inflationary environment with interest rates rising. That's what investors were looking for, and he should have known that. His prudence cost investors big time today.

Really? How much would going that route have popped the share price, and what do you think would happen to the share price when they come in way under his inflated guidance in their numbers for the rest of the year, not to mention the blow to his credibility in overpromising and underdelivering.....?

Most well-run large cap companies know they need to win the trust of analysts / the investment community by, if anything, understating their guidance in case unforseen issues arise. Then, they either beat or at least meet expectations, and if the bottom falls out of the market, the damage to their share price likely won't be as bad as most.

Good thing you're not SHOP's CEO.
