RE:Believing oil is dead Oil isn't dead and isn't going to die off.
Oil will continue to be used in the future but it will be used for petrochemicals and roads and hopefully some other uses that the industry can come up with to survive.
The days of "oil is bad" had a degree of validity in terms of the cancer causing properties of combusted diesel, but it was mostly a political sales pitch driven by people with ulterior motives.
The biggest environmental issue with oil imo is the disturbing amount of plastics in the ocean and landfill sites that are not degrading. Surely the oil industry can come up with a better solution than environmentalists scavenging beaches and floating plastic islands. Technology has seen the communications and auto industry repurposed in the last couple of decades. Why not oil???
For the oil industry to survive in the long term, it is going to have to repurpose itself. The HOW is above my pay grade, but I bet it can be done.
What is almost a certainty is that oil will be supplying the fuel for trasportation or the electrical grid in the future.
