True North Commercial Real Estate Investment Trust (the REIT) is a Canada-based unincorporated, open-ended real estate investment trust. There is NO dividend paid by TNT. They have a monthly distribution which is considered a "return of capital" for tax purposes.

The net effect, if the units are owned in a taxable account, is that the distributions result in a lower cost base - increasing the taxable capital gain if sold at a profit or reducing the taxable capital loss if sold at a loss.

There is no tax effect if owned in a trust account (RRSP, TFSA, RRIF....)
