You mentioned decentralized power or as some call it, dispatchable power. I have invested in a private company doing just that. Their current round of financing is at a valuation 13X my cost base. Big companies like ENB are talking to them about ways to secure and lower their energy costs.
That aside, I have mentioned big companies like WM and GFL which are investing in RNG produced from their landfills. WM with less investment than the cost for SU to buy the rest of Fort Hills will double their FCF over the next 5 years through production of RNG from the biogas from their landfills. GFL is producing so much RNG that they are trucking it to the US for export to Europe. This relates directly to my earlier post today about forgetting about whether the world will still need oil in 50 years but to put investment dollars were you get the best risk free return.
