If you remove the magnificent 7 from the S&P then the index would be down y/y. The performance of the S&P is not indicative of the typical investor that doesn't in an index.The media likes to exaggerate the strength of the economy by adding more weight to the largest companies.
Another thing to think about. Are the majority of shareholders Canadian or American? Last time I checked, Canadians cannot afford their groceries and I highly doubt the stock market is a top priority for some.
