Argonaut Gold: Scholarship by Mina La Colorada Valeria Judith Martnez Molina, who is in her third year at Telesecundaria number 68 in La Colorada, is a young girl with nines and tens on her report card and is also one of the students awarded a scholarship by Mina La Colorada.
Valeria was born in Hermosillo and arrived in La Colorada at the age of 8 to live with her family, just in time to enter the fourth grade at the “Carmen Preciado de Vzquez” primary school; she is the daughter of Mrs. Delma Olivia Molina and Jos Abel Muoz, who works at the mining unit.
Delma is dedicated to the home and to taking care of her family, as the youngest daughter, 4-year-old Mara Jos, was born with Pitt Hopkins syndrome, which requires a lot of parental care. Valeria is the eldest and her 10-year-old sister Lidia Mariana also attends primary school and is awarded a scholarship by the mining company.
“With the money from my scholarship, we can cover various school expenses such as buying materials, things that are requested for assignments. The mine also supports us with school supplies and items, they also provide us with backpacks for the school cycle and sweatshirts for the cold weather.”
She assures that she likes everything about school, especially Spanish and History subjects, and when she grows up, she would like to be a Psychologist and a writer.
“I really like to read and I am writing a book, I am already halfway, it is called ‘Everything I have on my mind,’ they are my thoughts about life and it is also to encourage people, so that they think positively.”
Valeria will soon be able to fulfill another of her dreams: to continue with her preparatory educational instruction in Hermosillo. She assures that she is very happy that the population of La Colorada can count on a school bus, support from the mine, which takes and brings students to the capital city. Later, she plans to apply to the University of Sonora to pursue her professional career.
“I would like to be a Psychologist because I have always liked helping people, I don’t want them to feel bad.”
Those who know her know that empathy is one of her qualities. Valeria can “put herself in other people’s shoes” to understand how they feel and provide support.
She also enjoys her free time playing with her sisters and friends from the town, with whom she goes out to the square in the afternoons to play volleyball, this sport is another of her personal likes, she assured.
