Couldn't agree more. Now layer on the enjoyment in the suffering of others and we're almost there. 

schadenfreude I do believe, with just a sprinkle of narcissistic oblivion to the plight of others. 

A buddy of mine adamantly justifies his trips to a casino as "entertainment" and a bargain compared to say good seats at a major sports event. But I've never found the near certainty of losing money even the least bit entertaining. Oddly, his investing style is far more conservative. Nothing without a dividend. Ever.
