RE:All pain no gain China coal is rising, no end in sight
if china economy is slowing, why are they scooping out and burning more coal?
My guess is too feed the EVs.
China's coal production expects a big boost soon, after record production last year (2023) of 4.7 billion tonnes, half of global production, according to estimates by research firm Global Energy Monitor (GEM), which was followed by the specialized energy platform.
Beijing plans to add new capacity that can produce 1.28 billion tonnes of coal a year, either through new mines (80 percent) or other existing expansions, accounting for half of the projects under development globally.
While the proposed projects are already under construction at 35 percent, China's coal production is expected to rise within 3-5 years.
Meanwhile, back in germany, they mothballed nuclear power plants, reviving coal plants and going gung ho on natural gas power plants.

All pain no gain is the swan song of ESG.
