Record Date VS EX Dividend Date?

Record Date VS EX Dividend Date?

Am I correct to assume that a record date of Sept 25 is not the same as an EX Dividend date? Usually and EX Dividend date is two days before the record date.  This is to allow for two days settlement.  So if you sold on Sept 24 you are still getting SOBO?

Sorry to sound a little dumb. However just a little confused.  Too much partying in my younger years.
