In order to mitigate "geopolitical risk," prior to setting up shop in China Musk engaged in negotiations with the very highest levels of government in China including Chinese Premier Li Qiang. Furthermore, Musk has partnered with several local companies such as Baidu to enhance Tesla's presence in China. Finally, Tesla's gigafactory in China has significantly contributed to the development of local EV supply chains so, currently, hundreds, possibly thousands of Chinese jobs are dependent on Musk's business enterprises doing well. Perhaps the geopolitical risk isn't as acute as you might think?
