historical reconnaisance work in the area by other companies is "interesting", but certainly not comparable to a dedicated drill program.
that's like dismissing the Hemlo gold find because the existence of gold in the Hemlo area had been known to prospectors since the 1920's; using your reasoning it could be said that "they" had been alread working the area for 50 years!
even at that, it took International Corona something like 67 drill holes to finally "hit" the discovery, which became the biggest gold find in Canada.
remember too that in the 90's Goldcorp drilled their property like swiss-cheese with very little in the way of results. I seem to recall they spent $6-8 million and drilled in excess of 25,000' and barely expanded their reserves.
in recent years, though, Goldcorp drilled the same property again and this time they hit the motherlode!
