What are you actually buying

I am not Long or Short AD, but I would not invest it in. Ask yourself what you are actually buying when you invest in AD's equity...you are relying on the management team to manage the capital and you get very little insight into the actual operations or financials of the underlying partners. These types of structures give alot of incentive to these management teams to allocate capital and close deals over being patient and waiting for the right deals. AD's management is in no way at the level of an Onex or Clarivest. I would encourage anyone considering Alaris to check out those 2 stocks that operate real PE platforms, invest their own capital and have very long track records of creating wealth for their shareholders.

On top of this you are paying a premium to book when you pay anything over $16.75 right now....it's not a terrible buy at these levels but just understand there will absolutely be more trouble in their portfolios. Most US BDC's trade at or below NAV.

Good luck to all....owning an operating entity is always better than investing in an entity that is likely being run with the primary objective of paying senior management.

Some valid points.  The stock has had a rough time but if you think Steve King and company are not good at what they do then you have no clue about the management of this company (in my opinion). They have had their miscues and they have had some solid deals. Ability to work through some of the bad files is important.  Market currently is treating them bad but markets do that from time ...more

It's hard to dispute the returns they have had from 2009-2015...I dont mean to say King and company are in anyway incompetent but I guess I like to have a team with more pedigree when investing in these models. It's a bit arbitrary but the bio's of the senior management team aren't as polished as you'd expect but again thats not exactly a concrete critism. I do see some ...more

You are right about the risks of investing in PE and I have said this numerous times that when you invest in AD you are investing in private equity. I have had AD for a very very long time and will not be surprised when the stock price moves up in time when the love returns from the market.  The market seems to be all over the place. Take a look at Enercare. Yesterday and today. Market can ...more

maypeters, Enercare and Alaris are trading at the same price.  I would rather own AD with its fairly safe 9% yield.

I own own both but Alaris is far bigger holding though I don't understand what price of the two stocks  has to do with each other.

Investing in stocks is all about choices - buy abc at xx or xyz at nnn.  Here we have two dividend stocks trading at essentially the same price, Alaris and Enercare.  So, if you have $18.000 do you buy 1000 shares of AD or 1000 shares of ECI?  Both have fairly safe dividends. Alaris yields 9% whereas Enercare yields 5.4%.  Although Enercare shows modest growth, investors are ...more
