481. APDN’s technology is plagued with many problems. Don’t ever expect Hayward to disclose this!
482. Dimers are short DNA fragments that are used as a primer.
483. Sometimes they mistakenly anneal to each other instead of the DNA template.
484. Sometimes they compete with the DNA template and this lowers the yield of the finished product. dbDNA doesn’t have this problem.
485. Sometimes APDN’s technology produces non-specific junk products, due to contaminants.
486. Another problem with APDN’s technology is inhibition.
487. Inhibition occurs when substances called inhibitors interfere with DNA enzymes.
488. Inhibitors can be present in the template DNA, the reagents, or the equipment.
489. Low yields are another problem for APDN’s technology.
490. Low yields of products can be caused by a variety of factors, such as insufficient template DNA, poor primer design, suboptimal conditions, or inhibition.
