One more thing

The other thing I forgot to mention is this.  The mining company I worked for did the following for me :

They paid me a great wage which enabled me to support my family and remain in BC without having to work camp jobs in Northern Alberta.

They provided me full benefits such as dental, medical, and a pension plan which took care of my family.

They provided me training in mining and first aid and paid for me to go to mine rescue competitions across the country.

They rewarded me for working safely by giving me safety award prizes.

They contributed thousands of dollars to our community and because I made a good wage I was also able to contribute to the local economy by spending my money there.

They enabled me to work with some of the best people in the world.  I developed life long relationships with my fellow workers.  Mining workers are very tight and take care of each other.

They also cleaned up the mine site after the mine shut down to the point you would NEVER know a mine had even been there.  Kimberley is now a completely tourism based town and the mining company contributed greatly to this transition.

Agreed.  Great posts orrzee.   Spoken from a first hand perspective.  Not too many can relate to that.  There are many who are hopefully awaiting the Raven to open, so they can raise their families and give back to the community.    Responsible progress.  Nothing wrong with that.  atb

I fully realize I'm likely speaking to deaf ears.  But I'll say it again anyway.  The local environmental impacts do not matter as much anymore, with coal, as does CO2 and climate change.  There is no mitigation that CEC can do short of committing to never sell an ounce of thermal coal.     There are plenty of other minerals that humanity still needs and that can ...more

You are much smarter than I thought  you finally realized no one is listening to you because all of your posts fit that of the class clown. Your stupidity shows when you say burning thermal coal gives off to much CO2. What do you think met coal gives off when used in steel furnaces. Why don't you quit wasting everyones time and go away you have become a bore when you constantly beat the ...more

lol. I've never said thermal coal gives off more CO2 than met. That is funny though, I'd think I was stupid too... but before we go calling anyone stupid, here are the facts. #1: CO2 emissions from all energy-burning activites accounted for 66.5% of all world CO2 emissions in 2005 (the latest complete estimation that I know of compiled in 2009) #2: Iron & Steel production ...more
