met vs thermal

i think a vast amount of investors aren't aware of the difference between thermal coal and met coal as well. they see what happened to Royal coal and think yeah get my money out of this, not realizing they are 2 differnt products one is used for electrical and heating and is common, so it value fluctuates. Met coal is rare, and used in specialized heavy industry, which why its price is much higher.

Further, not many people know the difference in specialty coals. If you look at the primary market for the REX coal, is small, maybe  2-300k tons per year. The rest of the production could go met in a tight market, otherwise it will end up going thermal.  Right now the met market is weak, so hopefully it will improve as REX gets into production, otherwise, NDX will be sellling a lot of ...more

Coking coal prices are at a an all time high. Why would you depict the met mark as weak? https://www.steelonthenet.com/files/metallurgical_coal.html https://www.steelonthenet.com/commodity_prices.html And what is the "primary market" for REX coal? I thought REX coal is met coal?

In terms of met coal prices, they have weakened considerably, take a look at Walters, Peabody, etc. You will see that they are closing mines due to weak demand and soft prices.  In terms of rex. The Rex Coal is high quality coal in demand by the metallurgical, silicon metal and industrial stoker coal markets. Its primary market is the silicon metal, which is about 250k/ton per year ...more
