Sodium Ion Batteries

Hi All,

I've been holding NLC for about 4 yrs and still long.

Wondering what people's thoughts are on Sodium ion batteries being able to completely replace lithium?

With CATL recently announcing that they will be rolling out production of sodium ion and it being a reality the lithium industry doesn't see how supply can meet future demand and the inability for the mining industry to scale projects up quickly enough for the EV boom.... I'm sure lithium alternatives will continue to advance and may decrease the demand for lithium???

I've heard about several different atlernatives, including zinc-ion and graphene based. I am sure something will become commercial viable. For now, Li-ion is the mainstream. It is takes time not only develop, but convince industry, adapt it to products, and then scale it up.  Also, Li-ion tech. is not static, we will see solid state batteries and different combination of metals and ...more

No sure how to edit, but forgot to mention that starting from 2040 (estimation of course) 50% of all Li should come from recylced batteries, further reducing pressure on the industry.

Hi FoMoMoFo, I found this article for you to read.  Don't worry about it, there are hundred types of batteries, Lithium will not be replaced in the long future, and other battery metals may be different. tiger How Comparable Are Sodium-Ion Batteries to Lithium-Ion Counterparts? https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsenergylett.0c02181
