Even at $1500 gold I never thought we would see these prices . Serafino says he can control costs and effecient  production but the share price is beyond his control . I don`t think he would ever sell anywhere near these prices . You have 2 choices now . Book a tax loss and hope to get back in cheap or ride out the present storm .  That`s it .  Oh and average down which for me never ...more

Wayne, the only way averaging down doesn't work out is if the stock is in a death sprial.  Otherwise, if you buy lower than your average basis you have now lowered your average basis and when the stock recovers you are now ahead of the game. Of course, this only applies to long term investors.  Flippers can get burned if they try to catch a falling knife.

Ah , if things were only that easy . If all you had to do was wait everybody would be a winner . What if Colombia had the same fate as Venezuala and nationlised the gold mines . Western Atlas ?  What about a hostile take over ? This is what happens when I average down . Wouldn`t it be better to take a tax loss , wait 30 days and buy back , ? Much better return and miners can stay in a slump ...more

True, lots to think about when performing one's due diligence prior to making a new investment in a company.  Jurisdictional risks are one of the factors that must be considered.  GCM is much safer and more diversified now that they have Toroparu, Aris, Denarius and Western Atlas in their portfolio instead of just Segovia. At a certain point, you would think that any residual stigma ...more

Tomorrow the FOMC meeting ends with a statement from Powell . On that statement we will go up or down . 9 times out of 10 he will change a single word and send us down . This can`t go on forever . Now even the big investment bank CEO`s are asking him to start raising rates . They see disaster on the horizon but Powell either can`t or won`t see it . Interesting day for gold tomorrow .
Comment by tsoprano24 on Jul 28, 2021 9:07am
Wayne, I don't think his handlers will tell him to raise rates. With 25-30 trillion in debt the interest would become too much to handle. He will continue his "transitory" garbage citing lumber prices coming down and supply chain problems blah blah blah. Gold isn't going anywhere, imo, and we won't be going up unless they start buying back stock. Just a waiting game till fall ...more

Yes , interest on Federal debt is now 16% of GDP . That doesn`t incluse state and municipal debt . You have to wonder how long this can go on . But I have been saying that for years . They need to get Allen Greenspan back . Nobody had a clue what he was talking about . Seemed to work well for a long time   ; until it didn`t .
Comment by Heywood_Silvers on Jul 28, 2021 6:18pm
Wayne, you ask how long will it go on?  I would guess until the Fed is abolished.  The govt borrows "money" from the Fed who creates Federal Reserve debt Notes (aka dollars) out of thin air which to purchase the govt debt. So, we have the privately owned central bank and the govt exchaning debt between themselves and the outcome is that the public suffers with the fallout of ...more

H_S, ever read the Creature of Jekyll Island. That is where the bankers came up with the plan for the Fed and the fleecing of the sheep. Book gets into other bits of history that you won't get in school. And, certainly won't nowadays. The real reason we got into WW1. The Breton Woods meeting where the spread of socialism was laid out. All kind of things to get a person irritated. Much like ...more

Very familiar with the book and have read part of it - it is very long.  I once saw a high school kid at the airport reading it, put a smile on my face as it makes me think that there ia actually hope for future generations. Our ancestors really dropped the ball when they allowed the crooked pols and bankers to take us off the gold standard over 100 years ago.
