What the SPR is really for. Something to think about

If you're Biden what happens with this...when you are tapping the SPR and a real emergency pops up? The SPR can only be drained so fast so if you are near max and an emergency happens now what?

It really is such a bad policy.

Great observation BSW, using the SPR for political purposes can potentially lead to major damage to the economy. There many senarios that can play out that are extreamly negative overall.

Of course, there may be long term actions that can / should be pursued, but what other SHORT term strategies are there?@ Curtail exports?@ Impose rationing? (To cut non-essential consumption.) (As the EU is looking to do.)@ Impose a surtax? (As above.)@ Tapping the SPR seems better than these others. It may be an okay first move, provided they do not go too far and switch to another strategy

The FREE market will force rationing on the consumer through high prices and encourage companies to use their increased profits to increase production. Unfortuanetly we do not have free markets anymore, we have central planners that only care about getting re-elected and the general population is too dumb to figure this out.
