Endeavour Mining plc > DIVS vs BUYBACKS

DIVS vs BUYBACKS

my opinion only..... (for what's its worth)
Lets be honest, dividends don't do much for share price appreciation.
2 x $100M divs/yr add up over time to large sum of cash that leaves the company for good, without creating any value.
At least share buybacks increase the remaining shares value.
Mining companies need to keep plowing most of FCF back in to grow reserves/production.
I'm all for "special" dividend from time to time when there is excess cash on the books and nowhere to deploy.
But you got to have dry powder in case you want to pull the trigger on a deal.
I realize you can access debt markets to borrow (they do have a great balance sheet) but with such high rates, better to use your own cash when possible.
I also believe their assets would be valued higher in a more diversified geograghic portfolio.
Mergers are not that easy to pull off especially when you are the one seeking the partner.
Dissapointing factor for many of the Gold miners is that the price of spot Gold is actually holding up at historically high level.
Shouldnt this be the "golden years" for these stocks?

I utterly disagree.  Dividends put money in your pocket - albeit for Canadian investors they are not eligible dividends and that sucks.  Profit from one hole to dig another is a stupid way of looking at it long term.  I begged for a dividend from this outfit for years.  finally got it.  with or without the dividend, gold companies just have a type of sine wave SP over ...more

So if a gold mining company stops drilling and depletes their reserves over time, production falls off while the AISC goes up (due in part to lower oz mined), do you think they will be able to still pay a dividend?

Well, of course Matt.  I was responding to you saying the dividends never add to share appreciation.  I certainly to no believe that either.  If BNS announced today that they were eliminating their dividend, i think you would instantly see how much the dividend is factored into the SP.  A profitable gold company is no different from a profitable bank.  Share *some of the ...more

cant dispute your trading strategy here tC. i own EDV shares through the buyout of Teranga Gold which was doing quite well before the takeout. Never owned EDV shares before that but after reviewing the companys balance sheet, their AISC, i decided to keep the shares as it looked undervalued to its peers. Stock price been tanking pretty good lately, trying to figure out why that is with a gold ...more

It's usually fairly consistent with the GDX.  It's actually been easy the last year as GDX (US$) is pretty much numerically the same as EDV (C$).   Had an odd blip in June but.... https://schrts.co/eWAwBrga So they've all been sunk.  Down 20% in the last 4 months.  But at least there was a dividend and pretty sure at a higher yield than most in the GDX and ...more

EDV taking beating today on a bit of gold strength.  has deviated from the GDX.  I repurchased trading positions - hope there isn't some geopolitical news I am missing.  Raymond James seems to be the seller. Time will tell. tC

Same thing again and again. Gold up, GDX up but EDV down. Very weak. 28% down from top with gold over 1900... Awful performance. GDX only 20% down from top.

7 down days in a row. What a great stock.

New day, same thing. GDX up, EDV.TO down. 8 days in a row and counting. The stock is always a disappointment.
Comment by Goldbug2703 on Sep 13, 2023 9:41am
Just amazing. EDV.TO ten days down in a row.... And GDX up again. 4 days in a row. 4 days in a row when GDX is up and EDV.TO is down. There is no end to this pathetic display.

Thanks for another post telling us all what we already know.  I check the comments here to see if there is any news.  But for 10 days in a row now all there has been is your useless posts , with zero info, zero insights, zero everything.  But somehow making them seems to turn you on.  GLTA.

Yes - EDV (or any component of the GDX/GDXJ) is going to deviate at times.  No one comes on here yelling at a time like last June when it was 20% higher than those indices than usual. Hopefully i have posted these so they don't have to be copied and pasted.
