Been a great investment
I have owned shares in ENB or any one of several of it's acquired assets for years. I have always done well simply by realizing that when it fell in price at a given point it was worth buying and when it reached and stalled at or near new highs it was also worth selling. That has worked well for me for what I believe is over 20 years.
Last time I sold ENB it was trading over $59. Last purchase made was at $38. In between I have enjoyed the high returns from the dividends. It is an investment that keeps on giving!
That being said I plan on selling all my remaining shares in the very near future. Not out of any gloom and doom prediction, but after the next dividend (possibly before) I am putting a tidy nestegg to rest as I continue to support a happy and financially carefree retirement. I hope others out there find the same financial peace investing here. All the best... and Enbridge/Spectra/Duke/Westcoast & Union Gas... many many thanks!

A bit similar for me,I bought about 15 yrs ago but never sold, just kept buying on the dips. The annual div increase has been formidable and the sp just keeps trending upwards. I have done perhaps to much speculating in pot and mining but ENB,BCE,,Nat BK,and Couche-Tard have contributed to sustained growth all these yrs. I will hold ENB for quite a while yet.

Why not keep your shares and live off the dividends? Once you sell Enbridge, are you going to keep the money in your savings account earning next to nothing?

What's a decent monthly income in retirement? Let's say 5k monthly? You need ~72300 shares (3.8 mill CAD) to generate ~ 5K monthly (taxable). What would you rather have? 3.8M in the bank or 5k per month? Not sure who around here has that kind of holdings though. If you do, good for you!

Your calculations are wron. 72000 shares wil generate $241481 dividend and in canada you get 40% dividend tax credit.

Not sure if you are correct. But my calculations are wrong. I will have to redo and post here when I get the chance. Leaving my wrong calculations to the side, the point I was trying to make is that is nothing wrong with exiting any stock and taking profits.

Correction you would need 17964 ENB shares ~ under one mill CAD to make 60k per year (taxable). We all have our own plans for the future and I am personally happy for each and every one of my fellow investors that made good witht their ENB investment. Whatever your plans are, if you decide or not to stay invested in ENB, ENB will do great for many many years.

I think investing in Enb is not at all risky if you are going to live off dividends. If you have 75000 share dividend would be about $220000 a year and always increasing each year plus you get dividend tax credit in Canada. No matter where price goes your dividend is safe worst times has shown they never cut the dividend. Relax and enjoy hefty dividends Have a nice weekend.

$250.5k Now all we have to do is come up with the 3+ million to buy the shares outside of our RRSPs and we're golden. Good plan. Go Enbridge! ;-)

It's been a core holding in the portfolio for years. One of several wealth creators that should be a core holding in everyone's portfolio. Glta.

So true, I bought ENB years ago with the intention of putting it in a drawer and just collecting the dividends forever.
