Strange volume this week

Any thoughts on trading this week. Huge volume day today in Canada and almost 100 mill shares traded today in the US. K ended down on TSX but up in the US. Seems like end of the year positioning.

Quite interesting day and week, 217m shares traded this week in NY up from an avg of about 70M, GDXJ had to sell 55m shares this week with today being the last day to do so. Whats interesting is Kinross price was actually down today in NY until 50m shares traded after 3:55pm today including into afterhours trading causing the price increase.
